Obsessive compulsive disorder can sometimes affect younger children as well as adolescents. If OCD is suspected then a full assessment will be completed including the use of scaling questionnaires. Treatment options can then be considered including use of CBT with exposure and response prevention which is a NICE guideline recommended treatment. This can be conducted in clinic but could also include sessions at home if indicated as sometimes behaviours are classless most effectively in the home environment.
If there is a traumatic trigger for the OCD then EMDR can also be very effective.
If symptoms are severe and not responding to psychological treatment then medication can also be used.
